Description –

As always, a nice job by the Cherry Hill Trail Crew.  This path meanders through a small patch of forest and meadow back in the Old Orchards neighborhood.  You can park at the small lot near the playground on Thornhill Road, or there is an entrance at the back of the soccer fields at the middle school.

The trail is short, but the woods are nice, I saw five deer, and there’s a small meadow (with a crushed stone pathway) to break it up a bit.  If you’re up for a bit more exploring, leave the trail at the crushed stone part and wander along the stream bank.  Maybe they’ll expand the trails down that way soon, it wouldn’t surprise me.

Somewhere in this picture there are five deer hiding.

Well constructed bit of trail. There is still a pile of stone to be spread out, so the rest of this part of the trail should be really nice.

Oh no! Rain! (Hard to see in this picture)

As always, nice pix! I visited these trails last October…once again, I don’t think all the signs were in place yet; in fact, it looks like the trail map I had downloaded last year is a little outdated…the Green and Blue trails are reversed! That is, when you get to the end of the main trail (Orange), turning right takes you onto Blue, while left is Green; it’s actually the opposite on the map I have. Also, I was unable to find the White trail last year; perhaps that is marked better as well. Of course, these trails are relatively easy, so it’s actually impossible to get lost! I really like your idea about possibly expanding the trail system to run along the stream bank; perhaps if someone starts trying to blaze a trail, the Cherry Hill Trail crew will get the hint and make an “official” trail there! Hmm…perhaps blaze it red, sort of like the trail that runs along the stream bank at Barclay Farms.

Anyway, thanks again for the nice review of the trails here…can’t wait to see where you (and The Pres, and perhaps your newest hiker!) venture to next!

Thanks Jim! This was my third time here, but we never made it past the playground the first two times =)

I don’t think that they update the maps on their website very often, although I’ve noticed updated maps at some of the trailheads.

The trails are all definitely marked now, but the white trail seems to be a a simple cut through. It was really nice for being so short though.

I’m hoping to do the Richterman Trail next week, then I’ll have collected all the Cherry Hill Trails!.
