Cedar Lake Park was a swimming lake in Voorhees off of what is now Route 73. I was told that at some point in the 1980s, a sign went up that said “Closed for the season due to insurance rates.” The lake never reopened. It is now a part of the Kresson Golf Club property.
Several years ago, I was talking on a message board (remember message boards?) about old spots and someone brought this to my attention. I decided to go look for it and managed to find it and take a few photos from the road, because how long does this stuff last?
I had someone email me this week asking about Cedar Lake and I remembered that I had these pictures somewhere. I found them just fine. To my horror, they were taken on Leap Day… 2004.

I remember the lake having crowds. There were plenty of other popular resort lakes in my fifties and sixties childhood and teenage years. It’s a social phenomenon how lakes like Olympia Lakes and Holiday Lake (Delran) and others just dried up with an increasing population. Could it have been wider use of A/C?
I’d be guessing but I think as the area developed a lot more homes added their own private swimming pools.
Back in the ’50’s and 60’s, my parents when possible, went every Saturday and sometimes returned on Sunday. I just turned 77 and still remember the good times we had there. About a year ago we went looking for it. We found the road in, it doesn’t look like it’s used much. The surrounding area is developed now by I believe by a hospital. We found the Cedar Lake sign, then the lake. I got goose bumps. I couldn’t get any further then the fence that block the entrance with the little booth where you paid your entrance fee. Every so often they would have a “by the car load” day, that was a real deal. The lake seems to be in tact but the lake (Lions Lake) that you passed on the way in, is no longer there. I really enjoyed being there when I was young and into my 20’s. My hope is that someday it’ll reopen and I get to take my grandkids there.

Cedar Lake is part of the Kresson Golf Course property now. The road past the hospital entrance is not used much anymore, as the hospital cut Dutchtown Road in two, so folks who live in those neighborhoods can’t access their homes by going past Cedar Lake anymore.
Ole’s Lake, the lake above Cedar Lake is owned by the hospital as part of their drainage offset from building the hospital.
Lions Lake is there too, it’s a town park now. The lake can’t be seen from the road, but if you pull into the parking lot, it is behind the community center building.
I wonder if they ever open it up too private parties. The lake and the nearby property looks like it’s waiting for some to just jump in and enjoy. I did talk to someone there at 10 years ago, he told me at that time they did but he couldn’t give me any more info. I never called back.. We since move up to the Pocono’s but I think I’ll give them another call. My parents and grandparents have passed on years ago, but when I found the lake, I pictured my father cooking bacon and eggs, my mother had the little ones playing in the sand and my brother and I up on one of the two platforms I didn’t want to leave. it was so peaceful there. a lot of good memories.
