Van Nest Refuge WMA – Hamilton Township, NJ

 

Van Nest Refuge WMA – Hamilton Township, Mercer County, NJ Distance – Did 1.7 miles loop.  Trails connect into Mercer County Park, so can expand this hike much, much further! Type – Loop-ish Difficulty:  5 of 10 – some bridges were out when we were there, which involved some fancy footwork.  If they were/are replaced, it would be a 2.

Website – None Open – Sunrise to Sunset?

Note – This is a WMA, but it seems to be closed to deer hunting due to it’s connection with Mercer County Park.

Terrain – Forest and swamp Surface – dirt trails

Tuckahoe WMA (Tuckahoe Side) – Tuckahoe, NJ

Tuckahoe Wildlife Management Area (Tuckahoe side)– Tuckahoe, Cape May County, NJ Distance – a zillion miles total on dirt roads.  We did a little more than 1 1/2 miles Type – Out-and-back Difficulty: 1 of 10

Website – Division of Fish and Wildlife Open – Sunrise to Sunset.

Terrain – Forest and marsh Surface – packed dirt

Trailheads – Parking areas throughout the preserve.  For this hike, I parked at N 39° 16.430 W 074° 43.365

Directions – 2201 Rt. 631 (aka, Tuckahoe Road) Tuckahoe, NJ 08250

Parking – Located throughout the preserve

Dog friendly? No Stroller friendly? No Benches? [...]

Cox Hall Creek WMA – Villas, NJ

Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management Area – Villas, Cape May County, NJ Distance – 4 miles of trails here.  We did 2.3 miles here, wish the 2 year old had the legs this day for more! Type – Interlocking loops Difficulty: 2 of 10

Website – None?  Is it possible for a place to have zero online presence in 2020? Open – 5 AM to 9 PM

Terrain – fields, woods, hills Surface – mostly paved, with a dirt trail through the woods

Trailheads – 39° 0’11.70″N, 74°56’53.02″W

Directions – 5 Shawmont Ave, Villas, NJ 08251

Parking – Two good sized lots

Glassboro Wildlife Management Area – Clayton, NJ

Glassboro WMA – Clayton, Gloucester County, NJ Distance –  unknown miles of trails, we did 3 miles out and back and barely scratched the surface Type – a web of walkable dirt roads Difficulty: 1 of 10

Website – Division of Fish & Wildlife Open – Sunrise to Sunset.

Terrain – Woods, swamps Surface – Dirt and sand

Trailheads – 39°40’25.48″N, 75° 3’13.81″W

Directions – Carpenter Ave and Fries Mills Road, Clayton, NJ.

Parking – We parked on Whitney Way, but looks like room for a few cars at Carpenter Ave.
