Distance –  0.25 miles total (one way), but paths off this trail can greatly extend your hike (we did 1 1/2 miles and could have extended it more)
Type – U trail (ends do not connect, must backtrack or walk around the block)
Difficulty:  3 of 10 – sand can be such a pain to walk in.
Total score:  6 of 10

Open – Sunrise to Sunset.

Terrain – dunes and beach
Surface – Boardwalk and loose sand

Cloverdale Farm County Park – Barnegat, NJ

Cloverdale Farm County Park – Barnegat Township, Ocean County, NJ
Distance – 1.5  miles of blazed trail
Type – Loop
Difficulty:  2 of 10
Total score: 8 of 10

Website – Ocean County Parks and Recreation
Open – 7 AM to dusk every day (Nature Center open on Fridays, Saturday, & Sundays only)

Terrain – bog and pines
Surface – mostly dirt

Trailheads –  39°45’31.67″N,  74°16’42.83″W (Next to bathrooms and parking lot) OR  39°45’24.04″N,  74°16’43.59″W (next to Nature Center, which is the official starting point).

Trail starts to the right of the nature center.

But NOT next to the pavilion.  It’s between the buildings and the bogs.

Difficulty: 9  of 10 – Too overgrown to follow the trail with the kids after about 100 yards.

Wishbone Trail paddle – Rancocas Creek – Mt. Holly to Hainsport, NJ

Wishbone Trail – Rancocas Creek National Water Trail paddle – Mt. Holly to Hainsport, Burlington County, NJ
Distance – roughly 8 miles
Time – usually 3 to 4 hours (took us just over 3)
Type – down the North Branch of Rancocas Creek, then up the South branch!
Difficulty:  7 of 10 (for paddling against the current the last mile and a half)
Total score: 10 of 10

Website – Ranococas Creek National Water Trail (proposed)
Open – Sunrise to Sunset.

Terrain – the river passes through the middle of town, as well as through forests and swamps.

Launches – 
Mount Holly – Launch at 39°59’24.58″N, 74°46’46.55″W (end of Wollner Drive in Iron Works Park) OR just the other side of the dam at Iron Works Park at the footbridge at 39°59’31.00″N, 74°46’55.59″W. We chose the first put in, which required taking the canoe out to portage around the dam.

Open – Unsure of days and hours.  The Burrough-Dover House, run by the Pennsauken Historical Society, is open for tours the first Sunday of each month.

Terrain – Short path down to Pennsauken Creek

Distance – 1.2 miles of trails (we did 1.7 miles with some backtracking, overlapping, and poking around)
Type – Mostly a lollipop
Difficulty:  1 of 10
Total score: 8 of 10

Open – 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM.  I was warned that the park gate is locked PROMPTLY at 4 PM, so make sure you are out of the gate.

Terrain – woodlands along small lakes

10 Awesome Things to do in South Jersey this Summer!

Memorial Day and warm temperatures FINALLY arrived, hooray!  With that, we have good and bad news.

The bad news – The Pres, Tree Rider, and the whole gang here at South Jersey Trails will be abandoning you for pretty much the whole summer, for the Rockies are calling and we must go.
