Parking – Several parking lots located throughout the park

Jacob’s Creek Trail – Franz Preserve – Hopewell Township, NJ

Jacob’s Creek Trail at the Franz Preserve – Hopewell Township, Mercer County, NJ Distance –  miles total Type – 2.7 miles total (that’s out and back) Difficulty:  4 of 10 (only because of needing to cross the stream, which is optional.  Without that it is a 2 of 10 for a bit of elevation)

Website – New Jersey Trails Association Open – mid-February to mid-September – open every day from dawn to dusk mid-September to mid-February – open Sundays only from dawn to dusk

Terrain – creek, meadows, woods, and hills Surface – Dirt with some rocks

Geocaching: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Wandering Around Looking Vaguely Lost

 

There’s been a lot of this the last few months.

So back in February, I accidentally started Geocaching (why are there so many accidents on this blog?).

Our buddy Skunk stumbled onto a Geocache at South Cape May Meadows and asked what it was.  I replied, “Hey, I think that’s a Geocache.”

He asked what that was, and I said it was like a treasure hunt, which was just about as much as I knew.  So we downloaded the app (Geocaching.com) and attempted to sign up for a free account on the geocaching.com website, only to discover that I’d actually signed up for one back 2011 [...]

The Woods at New Gretna & the Tuckerton Railroad- New Gretna, NJ

The Woods at New Gretna/Jersey Shore Live Steam Organization – New Gretna (Bass River Twp), Burlington County, NJ Distance – about 4 miles total (came from an article in the Pine Barrens Tribune), we did 1.2 miles around most of the perimeter. Type – Connected loops Difficulty:  1 of 10

Website – Facebook page (good to check, as they post whether the railroad will be open on any given Saturday) Open – Park is open sunrise to sunset.  Train seems to open on Saturdays in good weather, check out their Facebook to find out if they’ll have volunteers there on a particular Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM.
