Top 20 Trails in South Jersey!

Five years ago, I started a blog about hiking in South Jersey as an excuse to go exploring with my then one year old son.  I expected maybe four people to ever read it, and that estimate included if my mom could figure out how to get to it to see pictures of her grandson (she hasn’t yet).

Five years (and two kids later), we’ve explored 166 trails in South Jersey and counting.  We’ve made many new friends, been invited to part of some amazing experiences, and have had a total of ELEVEN people read our posts (okay, maybe more like fourteen people… wait, 700,000 hits so far!?).

Where Washington and Molly Pitcher fought! Monmouth Battlefield – Manalapan, NJ

South Trails – Monmouth Battlefield State Park – Manalapan/Freehold, Monmouth County, NJ Distance: 15 miles of hiking trails for the park.  About 7 miles in the southern part of the park.  (We did about 3 miles) Type: Interconnected web Difficulty: 2 of 10.

Sandy Hook Walkabout – Fort Hancock, NJ

Hiking/Biking Path– Sandy Hook, Gateway National Recreation Area – Fort Hancock (Highlands), Monmouth County, NJ Distance: I’ve done hikes of 4 miles and 6 miles here.  Could definitely do longer if you wanted, or much shorter. Type: Out and back with some small loops Difficulty: 3  of 10 – can be buggy.  Parts of trail exposed to the sun.

Terrain – beaches, beaches, beaches

Trailheads –  40° 28.074’N,  74° 0.053’W.  This is Parking Lot J at Fort Hancock.  There are a bazillion more trailheads.
