Top 20 Trails in South Jersey!

Five years ago, I started a blog about hiking in South Jersey as an excuse to go exploring with my then one year old son.  I expected maybe four people to ever read it, and that estimate included if my mom could figure out how to get to it to see pictures of her grandson (she hasn’t yet).

Five years (and two kids later), we’ve explored 166 trails in South Jersey and counting.  We’ve made many new friends, been invited to part of some amazing experiences, and have had a total of ELEVEN people read our posts (okay, maybe more like fourteen people… wait, 700,000 hits so far!?).

United State Avenue Trail – Gibbsboro, NJ

Green Trail (United States Ave Trail) – Gibbsboro Greenway – Gibbsboro, Camden County, NJ Distance – 1.1 miles total (one way) Type – out-and-back Difficulty:  1 of 10

Website – Gibbsboro Greenway Brochure Open – Sunrise to Sunset.

Terrain – Woods and some wetter areas Surface – Paved or gravel

Trailheads –  39°50’10.05″N,  74°57’49.38″W (by Gibbsboro Police Station) 39°49’13.87″N,  74°58’1.08″W (Lindenwold Park)

Assiscunk Creek Park – Burlington, NJ

Assiscunk Creek Park – Burlington Township, Burlington County, NJ Distance – about 3 miles of trails total Type – connected loops with an out-and-back Difficulty: 1 of 10

Website – Burlington Township Parks Open – Sunrise to Sunset.

Terrain – Fields, woods, and pond Surface – Paved, gravel, dirt, depending on stretch of trail

Trailheads – we started at  40° 4’9.65″N,  74°49’1.41″W, but also parking at the sports fields and the municipal complex.

Blackwater Pond Park – Buena, NJ

Blackwater Pond Park – Buena Borough, Atlantic County, NJ Distance – Maybe 3 miles of trails, nearly all of which require backtracking. (we did 2 1/2 miles, and missed 1 1/2 miles of paved path) Type – Web of out-and-backs Difficulty:  3 of 10 – parts of trail a bit overgrown (Tree Rider tripped a lot).  One section had a ton of blowdowns, but others showed alot of evidence of chainsaws clearing the way.  No markers, so not 100% sure what was trail vs just a deer path

Terrain – Fields, woods, and swamp Surface – Partially paved, partially dirt
