Daddy-Kid Hike III Saturday, February 13, 2016 Saddler’s Woods, Haddon Township, NJ Trail info – Saddler’s Woods
So our original Daddy-Kid Hike III in January was postponed, because The Pres got very sick. I rescheduled for February 13th, which turned out to be about 6 degrees when we got out there. Unsurprisingly, The Pres and I were the only ones dumb enough to show up! Wrapped up in all the layers ever, we ventured out for a hike of a bit more than a mile, enjoying the silence and stillness of a morning cold enough for even the birds to hide out.
Newton Lake County Park – Oaklyn/Collingswood/Haddon Township, Camden County, NJ Distance: Somewhere around 4 miles of trail (we did 1 1/2 miles this time) Type: Loop (with some options for smaller loops). Difficulty: 1 of 10.
Terrain – flat walk along a lake.
Trailheads – Pretty much anywhere along the trail, just park along the side of the road. Good sized parking lots just off the White Horse Pike on Newton Lake Drive.
Directions – Newton Lake Drive in (I think) Oaklyn. We parked just off of Cuthbert Blvd on Lakeshore Drive (Haddon Township)
Markings – None, but it’s a very clear, paved pathway.
Newton Lake Paddle – Collingswood and Haddon Township, NJ Distance: 4.25 miles (obviously you can shorten this considerably) Type: Out and back paddle. Difficulty: 2 of 10.
Terrain – A winding lake surrounded by walking paths.
Put ins – The only boat launch is at 39° 54.484’N, 75° 4.894’W. Respect private property around the lake.
Saddler’s Woods – Haddon Township, Camden County, NJ Distance: 1.4 miles – that was with wandering and backtracking so that we could check out all the parts of the trail system. Type: Trail network. Difficulty: 2 of 10 – crossing the stream is tough, but you can also go around on the sidewalk and go a little further. Updated – 3/20/20
