Happy 10th Birthday to us – today South Jersey Trails turns 10 years old! In celebration of 10 long years, we are doing a series of birthday posts. Look, here’s one right now!
Five years ago, we had hiked just over 160 trails in South Jersey, so we came up with our list of the Top 20 Hiking Trails in South Jersey. Well, another 5 years and close to another 100 new-to-us trails, it’s about time for another Top 20 list! That turned into a Top 25 list (and threatened to become a Top 30 list) because it’s too hard to leave so many great trails off the list!

Van Nest Refuge WMA – Hamilton Township, Mercer County, NJ Distance – Did 1.7 miles loop. Trails connect into Mercer County Park, so can expand this hike much, much further! Type – Loop-ish Difficulty: 5 of 10 – some bridges were out when we were there, which involved some fancy footwork. If they were/are replaced, it would be a 2.

Note – This is a WMA, but it seems to be closed to deer hunting due to it’s connection with Mercer County Park.

Tuckahoe Wildlife Management Area (Tuckahoe side)– Tuckahoe, Cape May County, NJ Distance – a zillion miles total on dirt roads. We did a little more than 1 1/2 miles Type – Out-and-back Difficulty: 1 of 10

Terrain – Forest and marsh Surface – packed dirt
Trailheads – Parking areas throughout the preserve. For this hike, I parked at N 39° 16.430 W 074° 43.365

Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management Area – Villas, Cape May County, NJ Distance – 4 miles of trails here. We did 2.3 miles here, wish the 2 year old had the legs this day for more! Type – Interlocking loops Difficulty: 2 of 10
Website – None? Is it possible for a place to have zero online presence in 2020? Open – 5 AM to 9 PM
Terrain – fields, woods, hills Surface – mostly paved, with a dirt trail through the woods
