With a few years of COVID teaching behind me, I needed a break. My wife and I have been to 47 states, but we’ve spent less than 8 hours in Colorado (and most of that trying unsuccessfully to fix a flat tire). So neither gas prices nor inflation nor crazy weather nor a three month old baby were going to stop us from a exploring the heck out of Colorado (although man did they all come close at certain points). 3 1/2 week road trip… here we come! This is how we spent our Summer vacation.

So after we left Yellowstone National Park in the rain and cold, we took many hours to drive south to Grand Teton National Park, which is connected to her more famous neighbor by a 10 mile road.
We drove through the clouds and the rain until we reached Gros Ventre Campground, where Uncle John had help from Tree Rider and The Pres with setting up camp. While it is not the prettiest campground in the park, it is the largest in the park. It does not take reservations in advance, but almost never fills up. We’d spend two nights here.

Back in 2017, our big adventure was having a new baby. But in 2016, we took a month-long road trip out to Montana. The highlight of our trip? 6 days in Glacier National Park! Even though it is in the middle of nowhere, this was the 10th most visited national park in 2019 with 3 million visitors, which tells you how amazing it is. And it’s amazing.
We had spent our previous day in a hotel room by a giant penguin…
